Dear audiences
It’s with great excitement that I present to you this new season, my first as the Executive Producer of Dance at the National Arts Centre. When I accepted this role, my deepest wish was to offer encounters with dance that will light a spark, create moments of grace, and inhabit you for a long time.
Dance is pluralistic—it is expressed using a multitude of forms, traditions and practices, contributing to its richness and beauty. I’m delighted by the thought that we’ll experience this season together and be guided through a diverse range of creations that all, in their own way, transcend life.
This season provides opportunities for a variety of artistic disciplines to connect, collaborate and exchange. In one of our major projects, dance, music and the visual arts join forces for a unique reflection on the realities of our time.
One of my other wishes is for dance to be everywhere! Throughout the 2024-2025 season, we’re taking the stage in several NAC venues. You can catch Krump in the intimate Azrieli Studio, delve into the myriad worlds of Canadian and international companies in the Babs Asper Theatre, and be moved by dance synced to the rhythms of the NAC Orchestra in Southam Hall. We’ll also experience dance in unexpected ways–bringing you outside the NAC grounds for cutting edge performances and special projects. Each of these events has the potential to transform us—that’s the power of dance.
Finally, I’d like to say how much I admire artists, and their courage and intelligence. Thank you for sharing your vision of the world with us.
Dance is life. It’s a part of us, and through it, we can reach out and connect with others.
I look forward to experiencing this season with you!
